Premission and Visa

Film actors, producers, directors and technicians employed by an overseas firm may qualify for a visa which allows them to work in the UK without a work permit, provided they are coming for location sequences only. This is a concession outside the UK’s Immigration Rules intended to benefit those shooting for overseas / international productions.
Work permits are also available for key crew and technicians when the scope of work is specified to our visa granting officers.
We will ensure this procedure goes as smoothly as required for your film group travelling to the UK.

Tax Incentives

The British Film Commission (BFC) is the UK government's national agency responsible for maximizing and supporting the production of international feature film and television in the UK.
With offices in the UK and the US, the BFC provides free tailored production support at the highest level from the earliest stages of development through to post production, including guidance on the UK's lucrative film and television tax reliefs and assistance with sourcing key crew, talent, facilities and locations.
Value of UK Film Tax Relief
For films with a total core expenditure of £20 million (? INR) or less, the film production company can claim payable cash rebate of up to 25% of UK qualifying film production expenditure
For films with a core expenditure of more than £20 million, the film production company can claim a payable cash rebate of up to 20% of UK qualifying film production expenditure
Accessing UK Film Tax Relief
Tax relief is available for British qualifying films. Films must either pass the Cultural Test or qualify as an official co-production

Minimum UK Spend Requirement

A minimum of 25% of costs must be spent on UK qualifying production expenditure.
UK qualifying production expenditure is defined as expenditure incurred on filming activities (preproduction, principal photography and post production) which take place within the UK, irrespective of the nationality of the persons carrying out the activity.
HM Revenue & Customs’ (HMRC) definition of UK spend introduces the concept of where a good or service is “used or consumed” in the UK. If they are used or consumed in the UK, the expenditure is treated as UK expenditure (under the rules set out in the clauses of the Finance Bill). If they are used or consumed outside the UK, they do not count as UK expenditure.
